‘The digital natives/digital immigrants distinction is dead or at least dying’. So proclaims Doug Holton in his blogpost. He continues: ‘Unfortunately, the idea is still uncritically accepted even in some journal articles, and perhaps used as an excuse or crutch too often for poor or ineffective teaching practices’. Holton is not alone in his criticism.
_“Han de poder criticar-se les pràctiques d’ensenyament pobres i ineficaces per millorar-les. Podem parlar de Immigrants Digitals o la meva versió, Resistents Digitals, on no és important a quina generació es pertany, ni els coneixements dins el món digital, sinó la més contudent resistencia a fer classes del segle XXI i no continuar fent les classes del segle XIX. ” _
We introduce our discussion in section II by critiquing Prensky’s Natives and Immigrants with a specific focus on the nature of the metaphor. The section also suggests that in the ten years since Prensky published his Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants (2001), technology, computer applications, and hence the way in which education takes place, have moved on to the point that the Native/Immigrant dichotomy is now redundant.

White and Le Cornu, 2011 aposta per mantenir la mateixa filosofia que Prensky2001, però modificant el concepte a Visitants i Residents. Al meu entendre, canviar el concepte Immigrant per Visitant deu ser més suau per a tots aquells que se van sentir ofesos, però perd completament el significat implícit del concepte”
However, there also appears to be a significant proportion of young people who do not have the levels of access or technology skills predicted by proponents of the digital native idea.
_“Altra vegada es juga amb la metàfora del Nadiu Digital. No tenen perquè tots els joves tenir els coneixements que White and Le Cornu, 2011 parlen aquí. Però sí tots els joves han crescut envoltats d’un món digital. Tots ells saben fer anar mòbils i comunicar-se amb ells (també els immigrants), però ells a més, estan dins les xarxes, les plataformes” _
